Day Two

We have a development environment!

The first code should start filtering through very soon, but before anything usable is created the plans must be laid out for all to see.

The next step is to complete the basis for the Wiki and get the layout diagrams online. These will provide vision to all developers as to what their piece does and where it fits. It will allow more relevant communication and fostering the sense of community.

If you have any ideas please comment here and we will take it on board.

Catch you in the feed,

Day One

So what have we done in a day?

So far we have a Google Code listing, fully active blog, a few articles in the Wiki and we are picking up speed. The general concept is pretty clear on this end and we should have a good Wiki article describing the aims and goals of the project within the next 2 or 3 days.

All we need now is some more people to get involved.

If you feel like you may be able to contribute something, no matter how small, please send us an email or jump onto the Google Code page. We would put up a list of what help we could use but that would take longer than rewriting the Linux kernel with 3 monkeys and Leonardo Da Vinci's water computer.

Day Zero

A somewhat ironic post

We are starting a project which is at this point called Open Engine. This will almost definitely change very soon and may change many times, however the goal will remain the same. We aim to create something which does not yet exist. Something new.

We aim to make an adaptable, modular, scalable gaming engine.

By this we mean an environment in which the game content, such as media, storyline, object interaction, and so on are seperate from the engine. This would mean that an engine designed for a low-end machine would be able to play the same content as the engine on a high end machine while performing at an appropriate level for the machine it is on.

This will be a massive project and needs to gradually build from it's current status (non-existent) into something usable. For now the layout is the important part as we do not want to make things hard for ourselves by having to rewrite everything many times to make it all fit together.

Subscribe to the RSS feed for updates and hopefully we'll be up and running soon.
Thanks
